About PrayerSteward

Are you a good steward of your money? Most of us would answer yes to this question because, after all, money is what puts food on the table, clothes on our back, and a roof over our head. We have checkbooks, online banking, statements and reconciliation. All to make sure that we manage our money well, being good stewards if you will.

What about the talents God has given you? Well, you better be a good steward of them because they are the driving force to securing and keeping a job, raising and teaching our children and helping our church congregations grow and share the Gospel. For most of us, that is how we earn a wage so we can provide for our families.

Now, are you a good steward of your spiritual life? In particular, how good are you at following through on spiritual commitments that you’ve made to yourself or others? Yes, I’m talking about prayer commitments.

How many times have you talked with a friend, co-worker or family member who mentions some issue, illness, death or other trial in his life and you respond with “I will keep you in my prayers”? How often do you make that commitment, but when its time to pray, you just can’t recall it in your memory? Information Technology has been applied to virtually all facets of human existence over the past 50 years - changing the way we shop, read, communicate and educate. Almost everyone has a cell phone, and a good number opt for smart phones because of their ability to keep you connected to the office, carry your schedules with you at all times, and allow you to check the latest news, sports and weather. Why not apply Information Technology to the way we pray? Wouldn’t it be great if technology could meet spirituality?
In some ways it already has, our churches have websites and there are numerous sites where you can look up Bible passages and inspirational messages. We can even get inspirational messages and devotions delivered to us via email or our cell phones. Just recently, President Obama said on the Today show that he gets a daily prayer devotion delivered to his Blackberry (see the video clip here). How cool is that?

Throughout the Bible we are taught about prayer. There are numerous references to the importance of praying often and with God’s will in mind. God wants us to bring our troubles and concerns to Him. Prayer is effective.

PrayerSteward (aka Promise2Pray™) for the iPhone is technology meeting spirituality. With it, you can easily log prayer commitments as you encounter them. Doesn’t that send a message to your family member, friend, or co-worker that they can have confidence in your commitment to pray for their need? Prayer commitments are easy to enter with just a prayer category and text of the prayer required. Set the prayer category enter the most as the default and its one less item you need to select. Later, go back and add extra details, like attaching a contact from your address book, specifying dates to pray and/or adding additional notes that might be helpful as you pray. Then at prayer time, just tap the Promise2Pray icon to recall all of your active prayer commitments. This makes it easy to step through each commitment, keeping your Promise2Pray. With PrayerSteward there is no need to carry anything additional to be prepared because it’s all right there on your iPhone.

Want to share that commitment with others, maybe with your prayer chain, prayer group or prayer circle? Awesome, the power of prayer can be multiplied. If you have an email account set up on your device, sharing is just a tap away from the commitment detail screen.

What about the many gifts God blesses us with? It’s just as important, if not more; to thank God for the blessings he provides each and every day. But, with the hustle and bustle of our society, these too can get lost in the shuffle. Log them into PrayerSteward and remind yourself to thank God for that wonderful blessing.

Set your commitment list to display in the manner that best helps you keep your Promise2Pray. Log future prayer commitments now and set them so they will automatically show up when it’s most important to pray for that commitment. No more losing the sticky note or forgetting to look at the calendar. Make recalling your prayer commitments on your iPhone part of your prayer time routine and you’ll never again forget to pray for someone you’ve promised.
